Jessica Fritzges, Ph.D.

Dr. Fritzges has devoted her education and professional pursuits to her passion: discovering and delivering high-quality psychological services that reduce or eliminate mental health concerns.

Dr. Fritzges’ education reflects her lifelong interest in human behavior.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland College Park; a Master of Science in Psychology from Walden University; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Walden University.

A transplant to Delaware since 2008, Dr. Fritzges has been diversely trained locally in a wide array of mental health settings, becoming familiar with the needs of people in communities spanning the state.  She has worked since 2012 as a provider of individual and group therapy in community centers, court-ordered substance abuse programs, the state’s psychiatric hospital, the state’s psychiatric prison, as well as in private practice.  She enjoys offering the full range of psychological services ranging from diagnostic assessments to court-ordered evaluations, and from acute incident trauma interventions to multi-phasic, multi-year courses of therapy for complex issues.  She has conducted psychoeducational evaluations also, working in several charter schools across the state conducting cognitive and emotional assessments for students’ IEPs.

Dr. Fritzges has specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD (C-PTSD), dissociative disorders (Dissociative Identity Disorder, which the public might better recognize under its older name, Multiple Personality Disorder), as well as other conditions that stem from trauma, such as Borderline and Narcissistic Personality Disorders.  She has experience treating chronic and severe mental health diagnoses that carry significant health risks to the people who live with them, and works collaboratively with other healthcare providers to coordinate care. She has training and experience in forensic psychology also, and has conducted evaluations for the Court when mental health has been a factor in criminal conduct.  She has served as an expert witness on behalf of her patients, and on behalf of the state in matters regarding child welfare and healthy child development.

By establishing the Atlantic Recovery Institute and Advocacy Center, LLC, Dr. Fritzges strives to offer a comprehensive mental healthcare experience for her patients in a supportive environment. She envisions a component of advocacy in the Institute’s mission also: to raise awareness not only of mental health conditions and needs in the community, but also on the societal and interpersonal factors that create and maintain them.

When not working in her role as a psychologist, Dr. Fritzges balances her time valuing her family.  She is mom to an energetic son, and in her free time, can be found enjoying Delaware’s beautiful beaches, cultural events, and historical sites.  She believes the personal is also political, and to that end, dedicates time and resources to supporting the LGBTQIA community, as well as those who express their gender outside binary options.  She uses the pronouns she/her, and finds journeying with others from all walks of life on their paths to be a spiritual, humbling privilege.
